Admissions Chances

Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is a selective career-oriented university that rejects over a third of its applicants. To get in, applicants will need strong high school grades and standardized test scores, particularly in math. However, RIT has a holistic admissions process involving other factors beyond your grades and test scores. A strong application essay and glowing letters of recommendation can strengthen your application, as can participation in meaningful extracurricular activities and a rigorous course schedule. Students with particularly compelling stories or achievements can still receive serious consideration even if their test scores and grades are outside of RIT's average range.

In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students. You can see that most successful applicants had high school averages of a 3.0 or better, combined SAT scores of about 1100 or higher (ERW+M), and ACT composite scores of roughly 22 or better. A large number of admitted students had grade point averages in the "A" range.
